In the early morning of 9 August 2005, signer nr. 20.000 added his or her support to the campaign against data retention. The number of signers from the Netherlands is the highest in absolute numbers, but when compared to the number of inhabitants, the number of Fins is a lot higher with over 4.300 signatures on a population of 5 million. The third place in the country count is steadily occupied by Germany, where the petition is getting an increasing amount of mentions and hyperlinks. The number of signing organisations has increased to 41.
The petition is now available in 14 languages, with Bulgarian and Romanian as the last two additions.

The Netherlands still in first position, but the Germans (4265) getting in close competion for the second place with the Fins (4538). Austria is still in fourth place with a little under a 1.000 signatures, followed by Italy and France.
The translations have caused an impressive growth in the number of signatures from Bulgaria and Poland: from under 10 to 207 and 295 respectively. I hope we will see the same impressive increase for the Czech Republic (now at 21), Hungary (18) and Romania (17).
